    Age 3-4

  • Super Hero Day - have the kids dress up (a good bath towel will make a great cape). They can then search the house for little treasures - like candies.
  • Hide and seek is always great at this age.
  • Water sprinklers can provide a ton of fun on a hot day.
  • Draw your family as animals.
  • Pressing leaves or flowers in books.
     

    Age 5-6

    • Baking cookies.
    • Tag - there are a lot of variations here - freeze tag, T.V tag, dance tag(you have to dance until someone one dances with you and then you are free).
    • Musical chairs .
    • Bingo (kid version of course).
    • Treasure hunts .
     

Age 7-8

  • With supervision outside, if you put mentos in a diet pop bottle it will make a great fizz
  • Scavenger hunts are super at this age.
  • Building bird houses.
  • Any game that uses the imagination or acting.
  • We tracked down an old Gold map and followed it to an abandonned mine where we happened to discover some Gold (or was it pyrex?).
     

Age 9-10

  • Walkie Talkie Tag - the person who is it has to find the others with the walkie talkie (this is like tag/hide and seek)
  • Capture the flag.
  • Fishing.
  • Reading.
  • Cops and Robbers.
  • Swimming in a creek
  • Going to the park.
  • Finding an old creek bed to see if you can find some old dinosaur eggs which may have been left behind. These are many shapes and sizes and look like eggs.
  • Floating down a creek on an inner tube.
  • Search for dinosaur bones or fossils along a river shore or rocky area.
  • Put coins on a train track and come back the next day to see if they become flattened.
  • Skateboarding
  • Find some good sticks to design into magic wands.
  • Build a sand casle or sea turtle out of sand at the beach.
  • Find some wild flowers and press them in a book.
  • Swimming in a creek or at your local pool.
     

    Age 11-12

    • Build a snow maze - make sure you don't dig tunnels though because A LOT OF TUNNELS COLLAPSE and if you are inside you could suffocate!
    • Build a snowman.
    • Go sliding. (If you are in Edmonton - there is a great hill off Fox Drive.
    • Start seedlings inside in the early spring, watch them grow and plant them in your garden to watch your plants develop over the summer! - Great suggestion Mary!!
    • Go Skating - try Hawwrelak Park if you are in Edmonton! Thanks Mary!
